One of the best in the business, radio announcer, DJ, narrator, broadcaster, animated voice specialist, and actor Gary Owens has marked over 3,000 cartoon shows and appeared in over 12,000 radio shows. His cartel of cartoon characters include Roger Ramjet, Space Ghost, The Blue Falcon and Ren & Stimpy’s Powdered Toast Man – and has been with Sesame Street since it’s inception.
Gary hosted his own offbeat radio show in Los Angeles in 1962 (“KMPC”) and stayed for 20 years. He was added to the insanity as the on-camera (“from beautiful downtown Burbank”) hand-cupping-the-ear announcer with the inimitable, over-modulated voice on the cult TV slapstick romp “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In” 1968 to 1973.
The show will receive a special tribute on this year’s Emmy Awards.Gary received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (next to Walt Disney and Betty White), in 1995 was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame, National Broadcasters Hall of Fame, Nat’l Assoc. of Broadcsters’ Hall of Fame, and in 2002 The Television Hall of Fame. He has been listed in the top ten announcers in the history of television.Gary and Jonathan Winters recorded a CD “Outpatients”(one of 22 he has recorded), and their “Legends of Comedy” will soon will be seen in theatres across the country.
