      Perry Botkin was born April,16,1933 in NYC, NY. Perry and his parents moved to Los Angeles CA in 1935 and he currently lives in Studio city, CA.
      Perry graduated from North Hollywood High School moving on to the Univ. of Indiana and U.S.C as a trombone major.
He joined the Army in 1953 and after two years  of service in the West Point Band, moved back to California and began his professional career.
      In 1955 he joined the Rock group “The Cheers” as a singer, trombone player, and arranger.  The Cheers had a hit record. Leiber/Stoller’s“Black Denim Trousers and Motorcycle Boots”. 
Perry left the group in 1956 and began his career as a freelance group singer, arranger, songwriter, and composer.  He Wrote arrangements for dozens of artists in Pop Rock and the “American Song book” world. 
        The 70’s and 80’s were movies and T.V.  He won a Grammy for Best Instrumental arrangement (Nadias Theme) and  was nominated for a Best Song Oscar (Bless the Beasts and Children).
He is currently composing Avant/Garde electronic music CD’s.and Videos.
       Perry also plays an important role, musically and personally, in a Documentary film about the creation of Hip Hop. “Sample this”  is the title’  It will be released in art theaters in New York, Chicago, Los angeles, and San Francisco in September.

ASMAC Outreach Mission Statement


  A.S.M.A.C. is an acronym for the "American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers". The society was formed in 1938 with Robert Russell Bennett as its first President. Its original title was A.S.M.A. The word "Composers" was added to the organization's name in the late 1980's.
 
  MISSION: A.S.M.A.C. is an organization whose mission is to promote the arts of Music Arranging, Composition and Orchestration within the entertainment industry community and the general public.
 
  PURPOSE: A.S.M.A.C.'s purpose is to provide its membership a place to make contact with each other to exchange ideas and information about the art of music and the music industry. A.S.M.A.C. seeks to educate and inform both the general public and the commercial arts community about the roles its members play in the creation of music past and present. A.S.M.A.C. also encourages emerging arrangers and composers in their development.
