ASMAC celebrates the golden music arranging contributions of Jimmie Haskell (1926 – 2016). Arranger for over 135 Gold and Platinum albums for countless artists and bands including Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Neil Diamond, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Steely Dan, Billy Joel, Everly Brothers, Chicago, Ambrosia, Ricky Nelson, Blondie, Grass Roots, Bobbie Gentry, Doris Day, Sheryl Crow, to name a few. Haskell was a master of being invited to add his touch and arranging skills to already existing tracks and make them sound like cohesive commercial recordings.
This event will explore Jimmie's golden arranging techniques including pads, instrumental hooks, counter-lines, underlining the melody line, and reverting back to accompaniment and word painting.
We will also explore interviews with Jimmie Haskell conducted by Dr. Richard Niles, author of The Invisible Artist.

Jimmie Haskell was the Composer, Music Supervisor, Musical Director, Music Conductor, Music Arranger, and/or Orchestrator of approximately 31 films, 32 TV movies, and 445 TV episodes. He has also worked with over 20 symphony orchestras and numerous Broadway shows. Throughout his career, Jimmie received 3 GRAMMY Awards, 1 Primetime Emmy Award, 2 Primetime Emmy Award Nominations, and other awards. He composed, arranged, conducted and/or produced over 135 Gold and Platinum albums. He was also the winner of 3 Clio Awards, 2 Addy Awards, and 1 Cable Car Award.
Tony Guefen is a Composer-Arranger-Producer based out of Los Angeles who has composed and produced music for the entertainment and advertising industries. Feature Film Credits include the scores to Larry Cohen’s wildly popular cult film “The Stuff”, “Assassin”, “The Webber’s 15 Minutes”, and others. TV credits include songs, orchestrations, arrangements and, composition on “A Time To Triumph”, “Body of Evidence”, “Columbo”, “Crime Story”, “Jessie”, “Lady Blue” (including the Theme Song), “Moral Court”, and others. Record Production and Arrangements for BMG, Capitol, CBS International, EMI Latin, Festival Records-Australia, JVC-Japan, Phillips International, Polygram International, RCA, Warner Bros New Media, and others. Advertising credits include composing/arranging and packaging spots for top Ad Agencies like Ayer (formerly N.W. Ayer), D’Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles, Leo Burnett, The Procter & Gamble Company, Wells, Rich, Green – New York, and many others.

David J Haskell CLPF, NCG, CLTC. Raised in LA, next to Mulholland tennis club, a few houses away from Glen Campbell, in Hollywood Hills. David became a licensed financial advisor in 1984, and over the last 40 years has become a well-known professional Fiduciary, trustee, and business advisor to clients all over Ca. He is licensed as a professional Fiduciary and a certified national guardian for the U.S.

Dr. Richard Niles is a prolific composer, producer, songwriter, arranger, conductor, and musical director whose career spans pop, R&B, rock, and jazz. Records featuring his work have sold over 250 million copies worldwide. Niles has worked in the recording industry, feature films, theatre, and television and has performed worldwide. He has written, produced, and presented acclaimed music documentaries for BBC Radio. He is a published author, journalist, and music educator. Niles was awarded a PhD from Brunel University for his thesis The Invisible Artist – Arrangers in Popular Music (1950 – 2000). It is now an acclaimed book published by Niles Smiles Music, available through Amazon.
Richard has penned a great new book, called Adventures In Arranging. Also, he is re-releasing, through his publishing company, Whatever Happened to Hollywood by Jesse Lasky, Jr., with an audiobook version that includes new music for each chapter.
