Creating the Hollywood Music Score Page with Finale Notation

Join a distinguished panel of Hollywood composer-orchestrators with an in-depth discussion on creating a masterful TV or Film score utilizing Finale Notation software as a tool. Featuring Tim Davies (Nas, Frozen), Dell Hake (The Simpsons,101 Dalmatians) and Hummie Mann (Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Dracula: Dead & Loving It)   Also, What’s new in Finale 2014 with your MakeMusic host Tom Johnson, Finale Product Specialist.

 

Tim Davies arranger, orchestrator, and conductor. As an arranger he has written for the likes of Amy Winehouse, Cee Lo Green, Miguel, Akon, Salaam Remi, Nas, and many ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Metropol Orkest. As one of the busiest conductors and orchestrators in Hollywood. recent projects include: The Hangover Part III, Smurfs 2, Frozen, Muppets Most Wanted and Need for Speed. Tim is also active in orchestral video game scores, having worked on such titles as Infamous 2, Batman: Arkham City, Knack and The Last of Us…but his true passion is writing for and playing drums with the Tim Davies Big Band. In 2010 he was nominated for a Grammy for best instrumental composition for “Counting to Infinity”. His third album will be released in 2014, featuring four charts each from his Australian band and his L.A. band, and a new work for double big band.

 

Dell Hake – TV credits include original music and arrangements for variety specials including The Golden Globe Awards, the Comedy Awards Show and the Miss America Pageant. As a composer – various animated series including The Chipmunks, The Wuzzles, The Gummi Bears, 101 Dalmatians, Disney’s Sing-Me-A-Story and for the past 16 years has served as orchestrator / arranger on the popular TV show, The Simpsons. Other arranging credits include Kenny Rogers, Johnny Mathis, Mason Williams, Marie Osmond, Ice Follies, Ice Capades and Holiday On Ice. Radio and television advertising clients include McDonalds, IBM, Intel, Nike, Southern Bell, Mattel Toys, Mazda and Ford Trucks. Orchestrations / arrangements for motion pictures include River Runs Through It, Fire In the Sky, Nowhere To Run, Time Cop, Quiz Show, Miami Rhapsody, The Negotiator and served as lead orchestrator on Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Scary Movie III and Eurotrip. Theme park music clients include Universal Studios Tours – Earthquake and Phantom of the Opera Make-up Show (Orlando, Florida) as well as parks in Italy and Singapore.

 

Hummie Mann His feature film scores have ranged from Mel Brooks’ “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” and “Dracula: Dead & Loving It” to Peter Yates’ “Year of the Comet”, the children’s film “Thomas and the Magic Railroad” to “Wooly Boys” starring Peter Fonda and Kris Kristofferson.For television, he has scored projects for Simon Wincer (the miniseries “P.T. Barnum”), Jonathan Kaplan (the miniseries re-make of “In Cold Blood”), Norman Jewison (“Picture Windows – Soir Bleu”), Peter Bogdanovich (“The Rescuers: Tales of Courage – Two Women”), Joe Dante (“Masters of Horror: Homecoming” & “The Screwfly Solution”), Jim Abrahams (“First Do No Harm”) and Richard Friedenberg (“Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas”).He was awarded an Emmy for arranging Billy Crystal’s 1992 Oscar opening number; a second Emmy for his original score to an episode of Showtime’s Picture Windows series entitled “Language of the Heart” and a Distinguished Alumnus Award from Berklee College of Music.
