Emmy/Grammy-winning composer, Patrick Williams, to present at ASMAC’s “First WEDNESDAYS” Educational/Social Event April 6th.

Patrick Williams, composer of original scores for over 65 films including BREAKING AWAY, for which he received an Oscar nomination, SWING SHIFT, CRY-BABY and THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS, as well as TV series’ such as COLUMBO, LOU GRANT, THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW and THE BOB NEWHART SHOW, will demonstrate the process of conceiving an original music arrangement, Wednesday, April 6th at the Musicians Union in Hollywood as part of a continuing monthly series sponsored by ASMAC (American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers) called “First Wednesdays.”

Williams was chosen by Frank Sinatra to act as Musical Director/Arranger and Conductor for his final studio recordings, Duets and Duets II. He has arranged for such musical giants as Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Michale Buble, Jack Jones, Andrea Bocelli, Paul Anka, Barry Manilow, Natalie Cole, Neil Diamond, Gloria Estefan, Michael Feinstein, Vince Gil, Amy Grant and Brian Setzer.

He has been a leader in the field of music education for many years holding posts as Visiting Professor and Composer in Residence at the University of Utah and the University of Colorado, which awarded him an Honorary Doctoral Degree. He has performed and/or lectured at the Berklee College of Music, Cornell University, Duke University, Indiana University, USC, UCLA and Yale University. He served as Artistic Director of the Mancini Institute from 2001 to 2006.

Also presenting is composer/arranger Elliot Deutsch, best known for his big-band arrangements for artists like Arturo Sandoval, Take 6 and Terence Blanchard. In 2015, Deutsch arranged several songs for the Kennedy Center gala “It Don’t Mean a Thing . . . A Celebration of Swing” under the musical direction of John Clayton. Also an educator, he serves on the faculties of Cal Poly Pomona and Long Beach City College and has written numerous compositions for school Jazz bands including USC, Cal-tech, CSULB, Cal Poly Pomona, Esperanza High School and many others, and recently lectured on arranging for Middle School Jazz Ensemble at the 2016 Jazz Educators Network National Conference.

This is the fourth in the series of dynamic seminars organized by ASMAC board member, composer and orchestrator, Milton Nelson.

The musicians union is located at 817 Vine Street, Hollywood, CA 90038. Check-in is at 7 pm, with the program running from 7:30 to 10 pm. Admission is $10, FREE for members of ASMAC and the musicians union. There is free parking available on site.
