Charlie Fox’s professional career in music has encompassed the worlds of film, television, records, ballet, and symphonic music, as a composer, pianist and conductor. He has composed the music for over 100 motion pictures and television films including, BARBARELLA, GOODBYE COLUMBUS, SHORT CIRCUIT 2, OH GOD BOOK 2, and THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN, for which he was nominated for Golden Globe awards for best score and best song, and an Academy Award nomination as well for his song, “Richard’s Window” sung by Olivia Newton John. He also composed the music for NINE TO FIVE, ONE ON ONE, TWO MINUTE WARNING and FOUL PLAY for which he received his 2nd Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for the Barry Manilow performed hit song, “Ready to Take A Chance Again.

For television Charlie wrote the theme songs and scores for such iconic TV series as: WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS, MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL, HAPPY DAYS, LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY, WONDER WOMAN, THE LOVE BOAT and LOVE AMERICAN STYLE, for which he won 2 Emmy Awards for best song and best score as well as 3 other nominations for best score.

His hit songs include the Grammy Award winning song, KILLING ME SOFTLY WITH HIS SONG that earned him the Grammy Award for best song as performed by Roberta Flack. That record also won the Grammy Award for Best Record of the Year and 20 years later the song became a worldwide hit again with the Fugees recording of it. He composed the song, I GOT A NAME which was performed by Jim Croce in the film, THE LAST AMERICAN HERO that Fox scored as well. The song won the Young NY Film Critics Award and was a top five hit. His other popular songs include, MY FAIR SHARE, sung by Seals and Crofts, DIFFERENT WORLDS, sung by Maureen McGovern, GIRL sung by Davey Jones and SEASONS an instrumental with Fox performing at the piano with orchestra. His songs written in collaboration with Paul Williams, Norman Gimbel, Hal David, Bob Crewe, Marilyn and Alan Bergman, Sammy Cahn, Carly Simon and other great lyricists have
been recorded by such diverse artists as Lena Horne, Fred Astaire, The Fugees, Roberta Flack, Jim Croce, Barry Manilow, Goldie Hawn, Luther Vandross, The Boston Pops, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Carly Simon and Tito Puente and hundreds more around the world.

Charles has composed ballets, concert music, and was commissioned in 2010 to compose a new work for the Polish Government to honor the 200th birthday of Chopin. Charlie Fox’s memoir, entitled KILLING ME SOFTLY, MY LIFE IN MUSIC, was published in 2010 by Scarecrow Press.
