2014 Big Band Arranging & Composing Competition

ASMAC announces the winners of the 2014 Big Band Arranging & Composing Competition sponsored by Bill Conti. There were 7 entries with  3 winners. Presentations will be made at the November 19 ASMAC luncheon at Catalina’s, and the winners’ pieces will be played on Friday, November 21 (1 PM to 3:30), at the Musicians Union rehearsal room 6. The performing group is the Kim Richmond Concert Jazz Orchestra. All are invited to come and listen.

And the winners are:

1st Place:  ALEX CSILLAG
for his arrangement of “Black Orpheus”

2nd Place:  SUZAN VENEMAN
for her arrangement of her original composition “The Storyteller”

3rd Prize: JULIA ZUZANNA
for her arrangement of “All At Once”

The ASMAC Big Band Arranging & Composition Competition is open to all Student Members of ASMAC in good standing or Associate Members age 29 or under as of October 31, 2014. Only one work can be submitted per contestant. The work can be an original composition or an arrangement of a pre-existing piece. The work shall never have been published nor publicly performed. If an arrangement, it must show a creative compositional reworking of the original tune.

As membership is required for entry, we are providing a special student joining fee of $25 ($15 initiation fee waived) for all applicants. Contact ASMAC at [email protected] to join.
