From your Outgoing President: Larry BlankLarry Blank, ASMAC President

As 2013 and my term as President of ASMAC comes to an end, I want to take this opportunity to officially turn over the reigns to your new ASMAC President Chris Walden, and congratulate him on being elected to run the organization for the next 2 years.

It was my pleasure to serve as President during the 75th Anniversary year – and to join with so many of our members and friends at our Celebration last January. We all discovered and reflected that day on what ASMAC has accomplished since 1938 under the leadership of so many great composers and arrangers including my friends Van Alexander, Irwin Kostal, Jon Charles, Ian Fraser, and John Clayton. I am happy to put ASMAC into the capable hands of Chris and his Board of Directors; and wish a Happy New Year to all the members of ASMAC and our fellow professional organizations.

From your Incoming President: Chris WaldenWalden HeadShot2

I’m humbled and honored to be elected president of ASMAC. Growing up and aspiring to become an arranger and composer, I idolized people like Billy May, Johnny Mandel, and Bill Holman. After moving to Los Angeles I quickly joined ASMAC and a few years later was invited to serve on the board. Suddenly I sat next to these arrangers that I had admired and never dreamed of actually meeting in person. That was a thrill. An even a greater thrill is to now be elected to serve as president of this organization that is so close to my heart.

I want to acknowledge and thank my predecessors Larry Blank, John Clayton, and Ian Fraser who also belong to that group of my idols and now I can call friends. I’m dedicated to continue the tradition of ASMAC in their spirit, help to further the cause of arrangers and composers, and guide ASMAC into the future with continuing our existing programs and helping develop new ideas that best nourish our music community and our organization.

The Board of Directors currently has a few openings so if you are a dues paying member, and would like to be considered as a new board member, please contact a current boardmember or the ASMAC office.
